Adjusting the Circular Level on the vPole
Overview
The circular level (bull's-eye bubble) on the vPole should be checked and adjusted periodically to ensure accurate tilt compensation during measurements. If the bubble is off-center when the pole is plumb, adjustments are needed.
When to Check
- After the vPole has been dropped or subjected to impact.
- If measurements appear consistently off in one direction.
- As part of periodic equipment checks.
Checking the Circular Level
- Set the vPole upright on a flat, stable surface or hold it vertically.
- Observe the circular level bubble. The bubble should be centered within the circle when the pole is truly vertical.
- If the bubble is off-center, adjustment is required.
Adjusting the Circular Level
- Use a 2 mm hex key to access the three adjustment screws located around the base of the circular level housing.
- To move the bubble toward a screw, tighten that screw slightly.
- To move the bubble away from a screw, loosen that screw slightly.
- Work in small increments, alternating between screws as needed, until the bubble is centered.
- Verify the adjustment by rotating the pole 180° and checking that the bubble remains centered.
Notes
- If you cannot center the bubble with reasonable adjustments, the level vial itself may be damaged and the vPole should be serviced.
- A misadjusted circular level will not affect tilt-compensated measurements as long as the iCS electronic level is within range, but it is good practice to keep it accurate.
