Measurements Failing After a Software Upgrade

Overview

If measurements stop working after updating iCON Trades to a new version, follow the troubleshooting steps below in order. In some cases, this symptom is caused by a coincidental hardware issue (auto focus failure) rather than the software update itself.

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Sensor Reset

  1. Press and hold the power button on the iCS instrument for 8 seconds.
  2. Allow the instrument to restart fully.
  3. Attempt a measurement again.

Step 2: Recreate the Device Profile

  1. Open Device Manager in iCON Trades.
  2. Delete the current device profile for the iCS.
  3. Create a new device profile for the instrument.
  4. Attempt a measurement again.

Step 3: Factory Reset the Instrument

  1. In iCON Trades, open the device profile for your iCS.
  2. Navigate to Info.
  3. Select Factory Reset and confirm.
  4. After the reset completes, recreate the device profile.

Step 4: Reset Calibration

  1. Open the device profile > Info.
  2. Select Calibration Reset and confirm.
  3. Test measurements again.

Step 5: Collect Logs and Contact Support

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, generate diagnostic logs while the iCS is connected to iCON Trades and send them to Advanced Dimensions support. In some cases, log analysis has revealed an underlying auto focus hardware failure that happened to coincide with the software update — this requires an RGA (Return Goods Authorization).
