Fusion 360 Import Error: 3D Polylines Not Supported

Fusion 360 Import Error: 3D Polylines Not Supported

Overview

When importing DXF files from iCON iCS into Fusion 360, you may receive an error or find that geometry is missing. This is because Fusion 360 does not support 3D polylines, which are the default line type exported by iCON Trades.

Workarounds

Option 1: Measure in Lines Instead of Polylines

Change your measurement mode in iCON Trades to capture data as individual lines rather than polylines before you begin measuring. This produces DXF geometry that Fusion 360 can import directly.

Option 2: Explode Polylines Before Exporting

If you have already measured in polylines:

  1. Open the project in iCON Trades.
  2. Select the polylines you need to export.
  3. Use the Explode function to convert them into individual line segments.
  4. Export the DXF file and import it into Fusion 360.

Notes

  • This is a Fusion 360 limitation, not an iCON iCS bug. Other CAD applications may support 3D polylines without this issue.
  • If you are unsure whether you need lines or polylines for your workflow, consult your CAD operator before measuring.
