Troubleshooting Lino Laser Beam Issues

Troubleshooting Lino Laser Beam Issues

Overview

If your Leica Lino laser line is dim, blinking unexpectedly, not appearing at all, or behaving erratically, this guide will help you identify and resolve the issue.

Laser Line is Blinking

Cause: The device is outside its self-leveling range.

Fix: Place the Lino on a flatter surface. The self-leveling range is typically ±4°. If the surface or mount is too tilted, the pendulum cannot compensate and the laser blinks as a warning. Either reposition the device or switch to manual (tilt) mode if an off-level line is acceptable for your task.

Laser Line is Dim or Hard to See

Causes:

  • Bright ambient light (sunlight or overhead lighting) washing out the beam.
  • Target surface is too far away or too reflective.
  • Battery is low, reducing laser output.

Fix:

  • Use a laser receiver (detector) for outdoor or long-range work.
  • Use laser glasses (red-tinted) to enhance visibility indoors.
  • Recharge or replace batteries.
  • Work in reduced-light conditions where possible.

No Laser Line at All

Causes:

  • Battery is fully depleted.
  • Device did not power on correctly.
  • Internal fault.

Fix:

  • Replace or recharge batteries.
  • Power cycle the device (off, wait 5 seconds, on).
  • Inspect the laser aperture for obstruction or damage.
  • If no laser appears after fresh batteries and a power cycle, the device likely has an internal fault and requires service.

Laser Line Appears Wavy or Uneven

Cause: The device is on an unstable surface, or the pendulum has been physically damaged.

Fix:

  • Place the Lino on a solid, vibration-free surface.
  • Keep it away from HVAC vents, traffic vibration, or other sources of movement.
  • If the line is consistently uneven even on a stable surface, the pendulum or optics may be damaged. Contact support.

Laser Line is Not Level (When in Self-Level Mode)

Cause: The device may need recalibration, or the pendulum has shifted after a drop.

Fix: Check the device against a known level reference (bubble level or spirit level). If consistently off, the device calibration has drifted. Contact Advanced Dimensions support for service options.
